  • When should I fertilize my palm trees?

Although the most important factor for a healthy palm tree is good soil that includes sand and compost, careful fertilization is essential. Here at Paradise Palms NC, we use specially formulated fertilizers to match your individual soil conditions and fertilize your palm two or three times a year.

  • How do you plant a palm tree?

When Paradise Palms NC plants your tree, we dig a hole two to three times wider than the root system and place it in well-drained soil, adding the right mix of sand and compost. We then tamp down the soil to remove large air pockets and build a soil barrier around the hole to create a dam.  Once we soak the tree root, we mulch around the tree.

  • When should I water my palm trees?

If you plant in the spring, frequent watering is essential and should be done daily or every other day over the first two weeks. In the following month, reduce the watering to twice a week. Do not allow the soil around your tree to dry out! Within a few months, the tree should not need routine watering.

Once the tree is established, a good soak two or three times a week in the summer and once a week in the winter should be enough.

If you plant in the fall, be sure to soak the tree when you plant it and then water it once a week for the next two to three weeks. After that, watering every couple of weeks should be adequate until the spring, when you will want to increase the waterings to once a week. In the summer, water twice a week.
